Italian public universities have relatively low tuition fees compared to other Western European destinations. Applications typically open for the October intake; some universities also have a spring intake. Programs taught in Italian require B1/B2 Italian proficiency — many Masters programs are taught in English.
Italy requires a 'Dichiarazione di Valore' (Declaration of Value) confirming your Nepali qualification's equivalence, issued by the Italian consular authority — for Nepal, this is the Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata. This is in addition to standard Nepal-side attestation and can take time — start early.
Nepal is under the consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata, not an embassy in Kathmandu. Applications are submitted at VFS Global Kathmandu and physically forwarded to Kolkata — factor in transit time (roughly 10 working days each way) on top of processing time.
Within 8 days of arrival, you must apply for your Permesso di Soggiorno (Permit of Stay) at the local Questura (police headquarters), using the 'kit giallo' available at Italian post offices. Missing this deadline is a serious status issue.
