Application Window: Australian universities typically have two intakes — Semester 1 (Feb/March) and Semester 2 (July). Apply directly on each university's portal. Most also accept applications via UAC or direct admissions. Check cut-off dates: usually 3–5 months before intake.
Academic Documents
Bachelor's Degree CertificateRequired
Original and scanned copy. Must be from a recognized institution. Australian universities assess Nepali degrees for equivalency.
Official Academic Transcripts (All Semesters)Required

Nepal is NOT a Hague Convention member — apostille is unavailable. Documents must go through the Nepali consular legalization chain. The Australian High Commission in New Delhi ultimately processes the visa. Allow 2–4 weeks for full attestation.

Once your Australian university sends a CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment), you are ready to apply for a Student Visa (subclass 500) via the Australian Department of Home Affairs (immi.homeaffairs.gov.au). Apply online via ImmiAccount — there is no VFS physical submission in Nepal for Australian student visas (it's fully online).
From the University (Australia side)
Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)Required
Issued by the university after tuition payment. CoE number is required on your visa application. Without this, the Student Visa application cannot proceed.
Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE)Required
Sent to your email by PRISMS (Australian government enrolment management system). Download and keep.
Tuition Fee Payment ReceiptRequired
Proof of first-year or first-semester payment (or scholarship covering tuition).
Financial Documentation
Bank Statement showing sufficient funds (AUD 24,505 per year for living + tuition)Required
Australia requires proof of living costs (AUD 24,505/year for 2024) + tuition fees. Total may be AUD 50,000–70,000+ depending on your program. Funds should be in your name or sponsor's.
Bank Certificate / Balance Confirmation LetterRequired
On bank letterhead from a recognized Nepali bank. Recent (within 3 months of application).
Sponsor's Financial Documents (if applicable)If applicable
Sponsor's bank statement + a statutory declaration of financial support. Relationship proof (e.g. birth certificate) also needed.

From AAS (Australia Awards), university scholarships, etc. Include amount and duration.
Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) is applied FULLY ONLINE via immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. There is NO VFS Global or embassy visit required for Nepal applicants. Application fee: AUD 710 (approx. NPR 65,000). Biometrics may be required — you will be notified separately if needed. Processing time: typically 4–8 weeks.

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) StatementRequired
1–2 page personal statement explaining why you want to study in Australia and your intention to return to Nepal. Critically important — a weak GTE can cause refusal.

Health Requirement

The Department of Home Affairs may issue a health requirement notice. You'll be directed to a panel doctor (in Nepal: CIWEC Hospital, Kathmandu is a panel clinic). Complete within the specified deadline.
Your Student Visa (Subclass 500) is granted electronically — there is no physical visa sticker. Border agents verify it digitally. Complete these setup steps within your first weeks.

Apply for Tax File Number (TFN) via ATO websiteAustralia
Australia Taxation Office — apply online at ato.gov.au. Required before you can work. Takes 1–4 weeks.
Open an Australian bank accountAustralia
Can open many accounts (CommBank, NAB, ANZ, Westpac) from overseas before arriving, or in-person at a branch with your passport and CoE.

Nepal has a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement — check current status at servicesaustralia.gov.au. Generally students need OSHC, not Medicare.
