Germany has two intakes: Winter Semester (October) and Summer Semester (April). Most programs are Winter only. Apply via uni-assist.de (central portal for international applicants) or directly on university portals. Uni-assist processes your documents for participating universities. Application deadlines: typically May 31 (for Winter) and November 30 (for Summer). Many programs are now taught in English.
Academic Documents
Bachelor's Degree CertificateRequired
Original and certified copy. Nepali degrees are evaluated for equivalency (Anerkennung) — anabin database (anabin.kmk.org) shows status. 'H+' status = recognized. Most TU degrees from Nepal have positive assessment.
Official Academic Transcripts (All Semesters + grade sheets)Required
Certified copies. German universities require a minimum GPA — typically 70% or 3.0/4.0 equivalent. Include a grading scale explanation.
SLC / SEE Certificate (Grade 10)Required
Certified copy. Needed for full academic documentation.

Nepal is NOT an apostille country. German authorities require attested documents (MoFA stamp chain) AND certified German or English translations by a sworn translator (vereidigter Übersetzer). Allow 3–5 weeks for full processing including translation.

Germany requires a 'Blocked Account' (Sperrkonto) as proof of financial means for your student visa. This is a German bank account where you deposit the minimum required amount — currently EUR 11,208 per year (EUR 934/month). The funds are released monthly. Open your blocked account BEFORE applying for the visa. Popular providers: Fintiba, Deutsche Bank, Coracle.

Admission Letter (Zulassungsbescheid) from German universityRequired
Official offer of admission. Required for student visa application. Must specify program, start date, and duration.
Enrollment confirmation or invitation letterRequired
Some universities issue a pre-enrollment letter while formal Zulassung is processing.
Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) — Critical
Open a German Blocked Account with EUR 11,208 (minimum for 2024/25)Required
Providers: Fintiba (recommended), Deutsche Bank, or Coracle. Takes 1–2 weeks to set up. Deposit the full EUR 11,208. You'll receive a confirmation certificate. This is MANDATORY for the visa.
Blocked Account Confirmation Certificate (Sperrkonto-Bescheinigung)Required
The PDF/document from Fintiba or your provider confirming the deposit. Submit with your visa application.
Health Insurance Confirmation for GermanyRequired
Mandatory statutory health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung) required. Providers: TK (Techniker Krankenkasse), AOK, Barmer. Certificate needed for visa application. Cost: ~EUR 120–130/month.
German Student Visa (Studienvisum, Section 16b AufenthG) requires an IN-PERSON APPOINTMENT at the German Embassy Kathmandu (4, Gyaneswor Marg). Book via the embassy's online appointment system (visa.diplo.de). Processing time: 4–12 weeks. Visa fee: EUR 75 (~NPR 10,500).
