Important: Nepal is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, so documents cannot be apostilled. Instead, you must go through a multi-step consular legalization process. Allow 2–4 weeks for the full attestation chain.

Step 2 — Ministry of Education Attestation
Educational documents attested by Ministry of Education, Science & Technology (MoEST)Nepal

Step 3 — Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Attestation
All attested documents legalized by Department of Consular Services, MoFANepal
MoFA, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu. This is the final Nepal-side stamp. Required for all academic, personal, and civil documents.
Birth Certificate attested by MoFA (if required by university)Nepal
Get it from your local banner office first, then municipality, then MoFA.
Citizenship Certificate copy attested by MoFANepal
Bring original citizenship + copy. Municipality verification may be needed first.
Step 4 — Notarization (if needed)

Step 5 — Translation

Norwegian authorities require documents in English or Norwegian. Use a certified translator. Most academic docs from Nepal are already in English.
Congratulations on your offer! Once you receive your conditional or unconditional offer letter from your Oslo university, you move to the residence permit application. You apply online via UDI (udi.no) before submitting physical documents at VFS Global Kathmandu.
From the University (Norway side)
Official Admission / Offer Letter from Oslo UniversityRequired
Must state: full-time status, program name, duration, and start date. Without this, UDI application cannot proceed.
Tuition Fee Receipt / Confirmation of PaymentRequired
Proof that semester/annual tuition has been paid or waived (if applicable). Non-EU/EEA students pay tuition at most Oslo universities.
Accommodation Confirmation LetterRequired
From the university's student housing (SiO for UiO/OsloMet) or a private rental agreement in Oslo showing your name and address.
Financial Documentation
Bank Statement showing min. NOK 166,859 (≈NPR 2.1 million) for 2025/26Required
Must be in your name. Funds should be present for 3–6 months (not freshly deposited). UDI requires this amount to be documented before granting a student permit.
Bank Letter / Certificate from your Nepali bankRequired
Official letter on bank letterhead confirming account balance. Must be recent (within 1 month of application).
Sponsor's Bank Statement + Financial Guarantee Letter (if self-funded is insufficient)If applicable
If a parent or guardian is sponsoring you, include their bank statement + a notarized financial guarantee letter + proof of relationship (birth certificate).

From scholarship body (e.g., Quota Scheme, NORPART, etc.). Must specify amount and duration.
Process: First register and pay online at udi.no, then book an appointment at VFS Kathmandu (Lagankhel, Lalitpur). Applications are forwarded to the Royal Norwegian Embassy, New Delhi for processing. Allow 48–72 hours transit time + up to 3 months processing. VFS service fee: 27 EUR (≈NPR 3,900). UDI fee: NOK 5,900 (~NPR 90,000).

Must have at least 18 months validity from application date. Must have at least 1 blank page. Bring old passports if any.
Passport-size Photos — 2 recent (35×45mm, white/grey background)Required
